Busy Lizzie’s New Year’s Resolutions

Busy Lizzie @

Happy New Year! Gosh, can you believe that 2024 is here? But you know what that means, it’s time for a fresh start and new resolutions! I always like to start a new year off by setting myself some goals, just small ones though, I don’t want to pledge to anything too crazy! Sorry everyone but you won’t see me running a marathon anytime soon - I’ll leave that one to Charles, one of our wonderful directors, who’s taking on the London marathon this year!

Instead I’ve created myself a small list of things that will be easy (I hope!) to achieve throughout the year, starting off with improving my skills in the kitchen.

Cook new recipes

I love to get busy in the kitchen and cook all sorts of yummy dishes, but this year I’ve decided to branch out and channel my inner Nigella Lawson with some new recipes. I’ll be on the lookout for exciting and tasty dishes to try out at home and who knows, I may find a new favourite!

Go for more walks

Whilst I may not be running any marathons this year, I do want to get outside more and I plan on going for more walks in my local area. I’m very lucky to be surrounded by so many gorgeous places in Yorkshire, including Yorkshire Sculpture Park which is just a stone's throw away from my house!

So I’ll be putting my wellies on and heading out to explore the best that West Yorkshire has to offer alongside Bob (and Ady whenever I can convince him to join me!). Of course, I’ll have my trusty Hug Rug and matching runner waiting for me at the front door to trap any dirt and mud I encounter along the way as we all know the British weather can’t be trusted!

Do more volunteering

I’m incredibly proud of the wonderful charities we work with at Hug at Home and all of the support we are able to provide them, but this year I’d like to branch out a bit more and do some volunteering of my own.

Giving back to charities and helping the local community warms my heart and I’m excited to do my part. Whether it’s volunteering at an animal shelter, helping out a local community event or just simply being there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to someone in need, I’d love to make a difference and hopefully encourage others to do the same!

Make more eco-friendly decisions

Now I’ve been doing some research and everyone is saying that for 2024 sustainable homeware is IN but of course, we at Hug at Home have known this for years! I’ve already got a few eco-friendly bits around the house, including some of our gorgeous throws made from recycled plastic bottles and soft and snuggly bamboo towels, but this year I’ve decided to focus on only purchasing new homeware if it’s sustainable and made from recycled materials.

There you have it, my resolutions and goals for 2024! I hope you’ve all set your own goals for 2024, no matter how big or small they are. Let’s make 2024 the best year yet!
